Nov. 13 through Nov. 22. Each academic department will have a box in their hallway for unperishable food donations. The staff of the department that received the most donations will get a pie in the face on Nov. 22nd during seminar. This organization shall be known as the Wes and Ruth Burrell Chapter of the National Honor Society.&lt;br /&gt;B. The purpose of this chapter is to best represent the school and community through scholarship, service and leadership.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Article II: Membership&lt;br /&gt;Section I: Requirements to be a Member&lt;br /&gt;A. Must demonstrate strong scholarship, service and leadership qualities&lt;br /&gt;B. Minimum 3.5 Grade Point Average (GPA)&lt;br /&gt;C. Involvement in extracurricular activities&lt;br /&gt;D. Involvement in community service projects&lt;br /&gt;Section II: Steps for Induction&lt;br /&gt;A. At the end of their sophomore year students will be reviewed possible candidates.&lt;br /&gt;B. Those who qualify will receive a letter instructing them on the application procedure.&lt;br /&gt;C. After the applications are accepted those that will be inducted during the fall of their junior year will receive written notification.&lt;br /&gt;D. Induction is a requirement and the only chance for a student to enter NHS. If extenuating circumstances prevent this, a meeting must be set up with the advisor who will then decided if the student might join at a later date.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Article III: Duties of Members&lt;br /&gt;A. Members of NHS are expected to properly represent the community, the school and the organization as described in Article I, part B.&lt;br /&gt;B. Members are required to attend all meetings.&lt;br /&gt;(See Article VII Part F if member is unable to do so)&lt;br /&gt;C. Members are required to participate in all activities. (See Article VII Part G if member is unable to do so)&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Article IV: Officers and Duties&lt;br /&gt;A. President (must be a senior)&lt;br /&gt;1. Create all committees&lt;br /&gt;2. Create agendas for and run all meetings&lt;br /&gt;3. Oversee the development of all group service projects&lt;br /&gt;4. Communicate with the advisor and school administration to gain&lt;br /&gt;approval for projects&lt;br /&gt;B. Vice-President (must be a senior)&lt;br /&gt;1. Assist President in all of his/her duties&lt;br /&gt;2. Oversee committee work&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;C. Secretary (must be a senior)&lt;br /&gt;1. Take and keep track of attendance at each meeting&lt;br /&gt;2. Keep a log of student membership&lt;br /&gt;3. Record what happens at each meeting and present it at the following meeting&lt;br /&gt;D. Public Relations Officer (must be a senior)&lt;br /&gt;1. Run committees to advertise group projects&lt;br /&gt;2. Create posters to advertise such events to the community and school&lt;br /&gt;3. Contact local papers, radio stations, etc. to publicize events&lt;br /&gt;E. Treasurer (must be a senior)&lt;br /&gt;1. Keep track of money going in and out of the organizations fund account&lt;br /&gt;2. Make a report at every meeting of the amount of money in the account at the time of the meeting&lt;br /&gt;F. President- Elect (must be a junior)&lt;br /&gt;1. Election of President Elect will take place after the juniors are inducted, the exact date being specified by the group&lt;br /&gt;2. Shadows the President learning what to do and what it takes to be a good president&lt;br /&gt;3. He or she will become president when the seniors leave.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Article V: Election of Officers&lt;br /&gt;A. Those who wish to run for office will need to contact the advisor two weeks before the election, and be prepared to go before the group and say why they would be the right person for the job.&lt;br /&gt;B. Elections will take place in the spring before seniors graduate, the exact date being specified by the group.&lt;br /&gt;C. Any member who does not show up to the election forfeits their vote unless there are other commitments (example: EFE) that can excuse the absentee. If such a case arises the voter will have to let the group know in advance.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Article VI: Meetings&lt;br /&gt;A. Mandatory meetings for all members will be held every Friday during seminar while school is in session&lt;br /&gt;B. Emergency meetings can be called by the president or advisor at any time&lt;br /&gt;C. Committee meetings take place during seminar on the days instructed by the head of the committee&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Article VII: Grounds and Procedures for Dismissal&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Section I: Involving all cases for dismissal just cause must be proven for such an action and given to the Galesburg - Augusta principal who will make the final decision. After this decision is made the member will receive written notification explaining their dismissal or probation depending on the offense according to the bylaws. At this point the member is allowed to explain their case to the faculty board. While on probation, members are critically watched by the advisor and are still required to participate. Once a dismissal takes place a member is never again allowed to rejoin.&lt;br /&gt;A. A member whose cumulative grade point average (GPA) drops below a 3.5 at the end of a semester will be notified in writing and put on probation. This member has one marking period to raise the GPA to at least 3.5 or will be dismissed.&lt;br /&gt;B. Any violation of the criminal law will result in immediate dismissal of a member. These violations include but are not limited to DUI, stealing, destruction of property, truancy, or possession, stealing or being under the influence of drugs or alcohol.&lt;br /&gt;C. Cheating or plagiarism by any member will result in immediate dismissal.&lt;br /&gt;D. Violations of the student handbook not resulting in detention (see section E) will be placed under review by the advisor.&lt;br /&gt;E. Members will be given one warning and put on probation for one after-school detention per semester. If the same member receives a second after-school detention during the same given semester, that member will be dismissed. In addition, if a member receives a Saturday or suspension for any reason, that member may be dismissed from the organization. The only exception is for excused seat time. If a member is given seat time for extended excused absences, including but not limited to: medical reasons, family, or school related functions that member will not be penalized.&lt;br /&gt;F. Any member failing to attend meetings because of excessive unexcused absences will be placed under review by the advisor to see if action should be taken.&lt;br /&gt;G. At the end of the semester the advisor will review all members participation records and determine whether action should be taken.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Article VIII: Changing of By-laws&lt;br /&gt;A. Procedural steps are as follows:&lt;br /&gt;• Change proposed officially at chapter meeting&lt;br /&gt;• Change must be approved by advisor&lt;br /&gt;• Committee set up to research possible ramifications&lt;br /&gt;• Committee makes recommendation to group&lt;br /&gt;• Two week interval between proposal to group and group’s vote&lt;br /&gt;B.
